The Apple Wireless charging interest to WiTricity

11 JulPosted in Apple news for 11.07.11

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported in passing that Apple has been experimenting with "a new way of charging" 2012 iPhone. Like our readers our thoughts immediately went to the same wireless charging mechanism.

Of course Wireless charging is not new technology, however, that the current implementations of it are somewhat limited. The original Palm Pre launched with induction charger , which allows users to charge your device when it is placed on a special mat for charging. The disadvantages of such inductive Chargers is the need for close to physical contact to be transferred and heat/energy restrictions.

2007 Startup company WiTricitycalled, however, is working on some substantial progress in wireless electricity, which has gotten the attention of a large part of the industry, including Apple. WiTricity is based on a study by the MIT labs where scientists demonstrated a new method for the transfer of larger quantities of power wirelessly at practical distances (up to several metres) from the traditional induction.

Magnetic fields of two properly designed devices with closely matched resonant frequencies can couple into a single continuous magnetic field. Solja Professor? (I)? "s team shows how you can use this event to allow the transfer of power from one device to the other at high efficiency and distance range, which is useful for real applications.

WiTricity has already received a significant amount of attention to the industry. Executive Director of demoed WiTricity technology at Ted in 2009 Intel has been experimenting with technology in their labs. Toyota has even collaborated with and invested in the company to develop the automotive Wireless charging systems.

Link to the Apple comes from the international patent application from Apple, called "the use of wireless in the local environment." Annex is published for the first time in May this year, and especially the details of one and the same technology of resonance and refers to the original paper, published by MIT researchers.

Apple describes a scenario where your iMac may be the source of this resonance, power to the virtual zone for charging in front of your computer. Keyboards, mice, and even portable electronic devices such as iPhone or iPad may be required to be mentioned in 1 metre near your computer. In typical Apple fashion, they describe that "do away with the cumbersome and unsightly cables and elimination of the need to replace batteries, easy-to-use and effective local environment can be made available to the consumer."

The technology is said safethat is, relying on magnetic fields. CEO of WiTricity seen above, the presentation of technology in 2009 Ted and even get wireless power modified the Apple iPhone.

Course applications for patents for Apple are only sometimes interpret the plans of the company, but in the light of the rumors of Apple experimentation with "new way of charging", we decided that this specific technology (which is already on the radar of the Apple) is sufficient to highlight the interesting.
